A company's profit, in thousands of dollars, from selling x thousand units is modelled by P(x) = x² − 2x. How much greater, in thousands of dollars, is the profit at 3 thousand units than at 1 thousand units?
Answer: 4
P(3) = 9 − 6 = 3 and P(1) = 1 − 2 = −1, so the difference is 3 − (−1) = 4.
