Algebra practice question

Chairs cost $30 each. A school will spend at least $600 and at most $800 on chairs, and it must spend a whole number of chairs' worth. How many different numbers of chairs could the school buy?

Answer: 7

600 ≤ 30c ≤ 800 gives 20 ≤ c ≤ 26.67, so c can be 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, or 26: seven values.

Common wrong answers

If you answered 6
6 leaves out one endpoint.
If you answered 8
8 wrongly includes 27, which costs $810.
If you answered 20
20 is the smallest number of chairs, not the count of options.
