AlgebraEasy–MediumPrice of a coffee from two orders

Algebra practice question

At a cafe, 2 coffees and 3 teas cost 13 dollars, and 1 coffee and 1 tea cost 5 dollars. What is the price, in dollars, of one coffee?

Answer: 2

With c + t = 5, t = 5 − c, and 2c + 3(5 − c) = 13 gives 15 − c = 13, so c = 2.

Common wrong answers

If you answered 3
3 is the price of a tea.
If you answered 2.5
2.5 halves 5 without using the first order.
