Three friends share a restaurant bill of $62. One of them pays $8 more than each of the other two, who pay the same amount. How much, in dollars, does each of the other two pay?
Answer: 18
Let each of the two pay p; the third pays p + 8. Then 2p + p + 8 = 62 → 3p = 54 → p = 18.
